The way I go about doing what I call "coaching" may not be for everyone. I wrote this short introduction to give you a sense of how what I do may differ from other approaches you may have encountered.
By the time you've finished reading this short intro you'll know whether the approach I take appeals to you ... or not. Either way we're both better off when you know exactly what you're in for when you choose a coach to work with, regardless of who that may be - someone else or me.
Coaching is the basic service I provide for my private clients. What I call coaching really means: developing awareness and then the specific knowledge and skills (what some people might call "tools" and/or "techniques"), as well as the experience you need to produce your outcomes.
First and foremost, I attend to assisting my clients in developing the critical skill of self-awareness. This extends beyond knowing who you are to a profound understanding of how you are as well. Then once you have this kind of self-awareness we'll blend in the specific knowledge, skills and experience you need to generate your outcomes - both on your own and with others.
"What has been most powerful for me in working with Joseph is how my relationships with people have changed. Where they used to be difficult, filled with conflicts, confusion and challenges they are now just smooth. I am able to connect to and relate with people and customers in particular in a way that wasn't available to me before. Yet the difference is subtle, not so much in what I'm saying that's now different but rather in how I am when I'm saying it. Joseph has taught me how to find and access a place of personal power within myself and stay in touch with that in an ongoing way. This has actually made all the difference."
Michael Davis, Oceanic Communications, Montclair, NJ
What we'll develop together will be a specific perspective of thinking and acting, a perspective that begins from and continues operating out of a consideration of "What's Working." This alone represents a radical shift in how I work with clients vs. some other approches you might have encountered elsewhere.
Most people have come to think about themselves, their lives and especially they way to go about getting what they want from the perspective of "What's NOT Working" - thinking about problems. Many people refer to this way of thinking as "problem solving".
When you are thinking about yourself, your life and what you want in terms of the "problems" you have, or more simply "What's NOT Working" you have set yourself up to notice just that ... "What's NOT Working." You can imagine how that will make you feel about yourself, your life and getting what you want over time ... day after day noticing for "problems."
It amazes me when I think about it that most people have been trained to think this way from the very beginning of their education. Before you even had a choice of your own you were already being trained in "how to think about problems" - worst you've probably also been trained to consider being a "problem-solver" to be a great thing to aspire to as well! Yet, think about this for a moment ... in order to be a great problem-solver you first have to find (or create) the problems you will solve.
"There was something cleansing and spiritual about what Joseph said to me and showed me about what I was doing. He gave me a frame of reference that I hadn't had before about operating in and moving through the world, especially in regard to other people. Where I was once functioning in my life around all these limitations that were self-imposed, Joseph opened up a world of possibilities for me that I hadn't noticed had been there all along. He showed me how I was when I was most powerful, being myself, and how to be that way all the time."
Robert Brandau, Canine Companions, Sussex, NJ
All "problem-solving" begins from noticing for limitations - noticing for what you don't have and what you don't want - no surprise then when people operating from this position get "fatigued," "stressed," "depressed" and "burned-out" over time. Most of my clients have "been there and done that" already by the time we meet - and one thing they can agree with me about regardless of anything else we might discuss ... THEY DON'T WANT OR NEED ANY MORE HELP IN "PROBLEM-SOLVING" ... THEY ARE READY AND WILLING TO BEGIN CONSIDERING ANOTHER WAY OF THINKING AND ACTING IN IN THE WORLD ... FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF "WHAT'S WORKING" ... and we begin here.
From the point of view we'll be working from this knowledge, skill and experience that you'll develop and be able to apply anywhere and everywhere in your life are critical to the foundation of operating successfully in relation to getting what you want..
Sequencing this process correctly makes a tremendous difference in the outcomes you'll get (or not) - first "Self-Awareness" AND ONLY THEN adding in the specific knowledge, skills and experience you need - regardless of the outcomes you might choose to be working on with me.
I begin here with my clients because until you have clarity and focus about what you actually want ... i.e.: "awareness" ... it's useless to devote your time or your energy to trying to develop the resources you'll need to produce your outcomes.
Yet so many coaches will skip what I think of as this essential step - defining with absolute clarity and focus what you want - and the way that fits and matches in the system-at-large that you are operating within ... taking into account your expectations about:
However, I assure you that your expectations are just as critical as anything else you can imagine in your actually getting what you want!
"For all my years I struggled with each business I've been involved in to get others to form a team where every person is as committed to its success as I've been. I'd always thought this was just the way it was, now I know differently. After having worked with and learned from Joseph I have put together a team of top producers who are all pulling in the same direction and accomplishing in half the time I thought it would take years to accomplish what I've dreamed of putting together for most of my adult life. We are well on our way to taking this business to double digit seven figure revenues after less than two full years, and I can attest that a significant part of this journey has been a result of what I've learned and continue to learn from and with Joseph Riggio."

Setting up your expectations to be in alignment with what you want will largely determine what you will get and whether or not you will actually get anything at all. Beginning from the perspective of "What's Working" organizes you to be in alignment with how you are naturally when you are at your best - a profound awareness of yourself, which includes your expectations, and the results that way of being produces.
Learning to move through the world in this way - profoundly aware in every moment of both "who" you are, and "how" you act - gives you direct access to a profound level of exquisite performance that matches and fits for you naturally, effortlessly and elegantly.
"I've been studing and learning with Joseph since 1997. I knew there was something special about this man.. and his work... and I've not been disappointed. In fact I've been surprised over and over. Of all the many teachers I've had in my quest to discover who I am... and manifest myself at my best in the world.. he is the only one who has consistently kept me coming back again and again... because he keeps coming up with new material. And sometimes it rocks my world... but always to great purpose.. and this stuff works. Over the years I've seen the results manifesting magnificently and I have been opened out to cutting edge information and resources that I would never have had the time or patience or inclination to study on my own ..."
